Fact Check: Is This The Picture Of A Man Trapped In Uttarakhand Tunnel? Here’s The Truth
The men and machines' gruelling combined efforts for 17 days to save 41 lives trapped in Uttarkashi's Silkayara tunnel were lauded around the world.
On November 12, 41 labourers got trapped inside the tunnel after a portion of the cave fell down covering over 60 meters with debris.

A special team, headed by Arnold Dix, was formed to safely drill the cave using a combination of machinery and manual labour.
The rescue operation was monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, who was taking regular updates from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister General (Retd) VK Singh. The efforts made to save 41 lives were applauded by almost everyone, but some anti-social elements are trying to defame the Government and relief teams by sharing old pictures on social media.
A post showed an image of a man wearing a miner's helmet and crouching is being circulated on the micro-blogging site X (formerly known as Twitter) claiming that the person in the picture was one of the trapped men.
"What is the point of reaching the moon, if we can't rescue our people trapped inside the tunnel? We are never prepared for such things," the message shared by a user with the picture read.
A fact check done by The Quint website states that the same picture was shared on Facebook earlier on 28 September 2020, captioning it as a "Hardworking father". Another Facebook-post dated May 2019 with the same photo said "40 years of impeachment war" without mentioning any location.
Which clears the air, that this is an old photo wrongfully interlaced with Uttarkashi's tunnel rescue operation.
The Union and State Governments' efforts to save the 41 trapped workers showed that every life matters in India. During the course of 17 days, the rescue teams tried to provide every possible facility to the trapped workers like food, water, and mobile phones to talk to their families.
