Fact Check: Has US approved a draft for Americans to fight in Ukraine

Since the start of the war, the US has sent billions worth of aide. There is now a message in circulation that the Americans may join the war in Ukraine

Thousands have been displaced since the war in Ukraine began. Continuing with its support, the US has pledged another $400 million in aide to Ukraine.

The question now is whether the US will send its troops to fight in Ukraine. If this were to be the case, the war would further escalate. This what many users on the internet are claiming. They say that US President Joe Biden is all set to send troops to Ukraine.

"Breaking: Biden calls for national draft. Men and women are being selected to fight in Ukraine. Biden: The recommended way forward will be to invoke the Selective Service Act, as is my authority as President," read the message with an image of Biden supposedly making the address.

OneIndia has learnt that the video doing the rounds is fake. The statement by Biden is from an AI-generated deepfake video.

The US actively entering the war is huge news. Had Biden made that statement as is being claimed by a few users, it would have received world-wide coverage. Every media outlet in the world would have covered it. However we did not find even one media house which has covered the news.

We were led to a tweet by ThePatriotOasis. The tweet contained the video which is very similar to the one being shared. The tweet read, "Breaking: Biden calls for national draft. Men and women are being selected to fight in Ukraine. Biden: The recommended way forward will be to invoke the Selective Service Act, as is my authority as President."

"The illegal Russian offensive has been swift, callous and brutal. It's barbaric. Putin's illegal occupation of Kyiv and the impending Chinese blockade of Taiwan has created a two-front national security crisis that requires more troops than the volunteer military can supply. I have received guidance from General Milly, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, that the recommended way forward will be to invoke the Selective Service Act, as is my authority as president," President Biden can he heard saying in the viral video.

"The first to be called in a sequence determined by national lottery will be men and women whose twentieth birthday falls during the calendar year 2023. Remember, you are not sending your sons and daughters to war, you're sending them to freedom. God bless our troops and god bless Ukraine," he also can be heard saying in the video.

However at the end of the video, a man appears on the screen and says, this was an AI generated video.

"That was an AI Chat. I don't want to say recreation, but maybe a pre-creation of President Biden, designed and scripted by our producers here for the show of what could happen if President Biden were to declare and activate the Selective Service Act, begin drafting 20-year-olds here in the United States," the man is heard saying on the video.

ThePatriotOasis appears to have taken the video from The Post Millennial, a Canadian online news magazine.

Sharing the video The Post Millennial had said, "AI imagines what would happen if Biden declares and activates the Select Services Act and begins drafting 20 yers old to war."

The man in video who said that it was created using AI is Jack Poscobiec. The video from a show he hosts for Turning Point US.

The original video of President Biden was shared on YouTube by the official account of The White House. Shared on December 8 2021, the description read, "President Biden's Build Back Better Act will lower costs for families dealing with diabetes."

Hence it is clear that the video in circulation claiming that the Americans are going to actively participate in the Ukraine war is false. The video which is in circulation is from an Ai-generated deepfake and no draft has been announced in the United States.
