Fact Check: Has the Swiss govt halted Covid vaccine program?

With COVID-19 cases on the rise, a post has gone viral claiming that the Swiss government has halted the use of vaccines.

India has reported a single-day spike of over 10,000 cases, the highest in seven months. The Centre had even ordered a two-day mock drill to gauge the preparedness. Due to the rise in the number of cases, the Kerala and Haryana governments have made wearing of masks in public places mandatory again.

There is a claim that has gone viral claiming that the Switzerland government has halted COVID-19 vaccines and withdrawn vaccination recommendations.

Doctors are only permitted to administer the controversial vaccines in exceptional cases and under â€æ' #PfizerLiedPeopleDied," said a Twitter user. The user also shared an article published in 'The People's Voice. The headline of the article reads, 'Switzerland Orders Immediate Halt To Covid Vaccinations: 'Does More Harm Than Good.'

The claim is not right. Instead it is a hoax with plenty of misinformation and is intended at spreading anti-vaccine scaremongering, like has been seen in the past several times.

Another article read, 'Switzerland not recommending COVID vaccines, even for high risk individuals, during spring and summer.'

OneIndia found a an advisory issued by the Federal OfScreenshot 2023-04-13 at 2.35.32 PM.pngfice of Public Heath, Switzerland which said that almost all in the country have been vaccinated.

It was in view of this that the government decided not to recommend COVID-19 vaccines for spring/summer 2023. It also was reasoned that the virus was less likely to circulate in these months and the current variants caused milld illness. The note also does not mention anywhere that the vaccines cause 'more harm than good.' The Swiss government has also not halted the use of COVID-19 vaccines.

Hence it is clear that the viral claim about the Swiss government halting the COVID-19 vaccine programme is false.
