Fact Check: Has George Soros Died At The Age of 92?

Rumours are afloat yet again that financier George Soros has died.

Soros is a Hungarian American investor, businessman and chief financier. Due to both his popularity and controversial nature, he is of great interest online. There was speculation on Twitter that he had died, but the 92-year old has not died in reality.

Recently a Twitter post by CilComLFC went viral on the social networking site. The user had attached a black and white image of Soros and had written, 'Breaking: George Soros has died of a violent heart attack, according to Politics for All Ireland.'

The tweet had gone viral and had acquired close to 400k views.

We found thatScreenshot 2023-05-15 at 2.25.20 PM.png the fake news first originated from @PolitcsFAIRL, a Twitter handle. 'Breaking: Family Confirms George Soros has died aged 92,' read the tweet.

However the news has been debunked by another Twitter handle, ThePlotThickens. 'It appears George Soros isn't dead yet,' the tweet read.

We also checked online with specific searches if Soros had died and did not come across any such thing. Had he died it would have made headlines. Hence it would be safe to conclude that the news relating to George Soros' death is fake.

Prior to this too news relating to his death had gone viral. A fake obituary of his spread like wildfire in 2022. In 2013, Reuters too had accidentally published a 'premature' obituary of Soros as well. The 1,000 word article included a fill-in-the-blank article that read:

"George Soros, who died XXX at age XXX, was a predatory and hugely successful financier and investor, who argued paradoxically for years against the same sort of free-wheeling capitalism that made him billions."

Reuters later released an apology after the false report went viral.
