Fact Check: Did Zelensky ask young Americans to fight the Ukraine war?
It has been over a year now since the war in Ukraine began. Scores of people have lost their lives and property damaged in huge numbers.
It has over a year since the Russia-Ukraine war began and scores of lives have been lost and property destroyed in large numbers.
Shortly before the one-year anniversary of the war that began on February 24 2022, US President Joe Biden visited Ukraine. Now a video of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has gone viral with some wild allegations.

Those sharing the video said that Zelensky has sought young Americans to help fight the war on the ground. In the translated version of the video, Zelensky is heard saying, "the US will have to send their sons and daughters exactly the same way as we are sending our sons and daughters to war. They will have to fight. Because it is NATO that we are talking about, and they will be dying. God forbid because it is a horrible thing."
OneIndia has learnt that this video clip is being shared out of context. Moreover the viral part of the speech has been clipped out of context. Zelensky was referring to the consequences of Ukraine losing the war.
We came across an article on RT with a headline," Zelensky threatens unsupportive Americans."
As per this report Zelensky had threatened Americans who were against the US' support for Ukraine. The report said while he was referring to a journalist, he allegedly urged the US to keep supporting the country. He also stressed that the US would lose its influence over the world if it stopped backing Ukraine.
We also found a video on YouTube posted by DW News on February. A reporter had asked Zelensky about many US citizens believing that the US government had provided 'too much' support to Ukraine.
"I can tell them only one thing. If they do not change their opinion, if they do not understand us, if they do not support Ukraine, they will lose NATO. They will lose the clout of the United States, they will lose the leadership position they are enjoying in the world," Zelensky said according to the translator.
"They will lose the support of the country with 40 million of the population (Ukraine) with millions of children. Are American children any different from ours? Who wants a third world war? Would anyone be willing to accept that risk? The US is never going to give up on the NATO member states. If Ukraine loses, Russia is going to enter the Baltic states and NATO member states, and then the US will have to send their sons and daughters exactly the same way we are sending our sons and daughters to war, and they will have to fight. Because it's NATO that we are talking about, and they will be dying. God forbid it because it's a horrible thing," Zelensky said according to this video.
Hence, one can conclude that the claim being made about what Zelensky had actually said has been clipped out of context.
