Fact Check: Did Trump thank Musk for welcoming him back to Twitter
New Delhi, Oct 12: The internet has been discussing the return of Donald Trump to Twitter. Recently, Elon Musk made headlines for welcoming American rapper Kanye West back to Twitter. He had been inactive for nearly two years.
Now a screenshot of a tweet by former US President Trump has gone viral with the message, 'thank you Elon Musk, I am back.' Trump was suspended from Twitter in January 2021.

The viral screenshot was shared in the backdrop of reports stating that Musk is yet to close his Twitter deal and he may do so before the end of October.
OneIndia has learnt that the viral screenshot was that of an account impersonating Trump. We also found that Trump still remains suspended from Twitter. If one looks closely at the screenshot it is that of @realDonJTru. Donald Trump's twitter account is @realDonaldTrump.
The impersonator had created the account in September 2022 and this account has just 33 followers. Moreover the cover photo is the logo of the New York Times and this makes it clear that it is the account of an impersonator. A cached version of the viral tweet can be found below.
Following the riots by pro-Trump supporters at the United States Capitol on January 6 2021, Trump's Twitter account was suspended for breaching the rules of the platform. The suspension is still in force and this makes it clear that the viral screenshot with the tweet claiming it to be that of Donald Trump is in reality that of an impersonator.
However Musk had said in May this year that he would reverse Twitter's ban of Donal Trump. The report could be read here. Speaking at an auto conference, Tesla CEO, Musk had said that the ban of Trump was a morally bad decision and foolish in the extreme.
