Fact Check: Are Exit Polls For Rajasthan Out? Old Survey Falsely Circulated As 2023 Results

As the nation curiously awaits the assembly election results of five states including Rajasthan, there are some misleading or fake exit polls being circulated online.

A few people on social media have shared pictures claiming that the exit poll results are out. The posts claiming to be exit poll results indicate that the Congress would emerge victorious in the 2023 assembly elections in Rajasthan.

Another post claims that Congress is winning assembly polls in Rajasthan as it is poised to win between 119-and 141 seats. Whereas the BJP will be reduced to 55-72 seats.

However, Factly has done a fact check and found out that these are the exit poll results from the 2018 assembly polls. Upon conducting a reverse image search on the post claiming to present exit poll data for Rajasthan from different news channels, it was revealed that the included screenshot actually corresponds to the exit poll results from 2018 in Rajasthan.

More importantly, in accordance with Section 126A of the Representation of People's Act, the Election Commission issued a notice on October 31, 2023, restraining the disclosure of exit poll results until November 30, 2023, across all five states undergoing elections.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan recorded a voter turnout of 75.45 per cent in the assembly polls held on Saturday, marginally higher than the figure of previous elections in 2018.

In 2018, the state registered a turnout of 74.71 per cent.

Voting at more than 51,000 polling booths in 199 out of the 200 assembly constituencies in the state was held on Saturday. Due to the demise of the Congress candidate, the election in the Karanpur assembly constituency of Sriganganagar district was postponed.
