Fact Check: Did Aamir Khan Troll BJP For 'Rs 15 Lakh In Bank Account' Promise To Voters?
A video of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan allegedly trolling the BJP over failing to fulfill a promise to people has gone viral on social media sites.
In the clip, the actor is heard saying: "If you think India is a poor country, you are wrong. Every citizen of this country is a lakhpati. Everyone should have at least 15 lakhs. You don't have that amount? Be careful of Jumla promises."

The video ends with a message: "Vote For Nyay, Vote For Congress."
The video went viral garnering mixed responses from the netizens. While the Congress supporters had no qualms in complaining about the clip, the BJP supporters did not take the video lightly.
Well, the truth is Aamir Khan has not made the claims and it is a clip created through Deepfake technology.
Aamir Khan himself has come forward to issue a clarification. "We want to clarify that Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections.
We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party. He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue. He has reported the matter to various authorities related to this issue, including filing an FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police," the statement read.
The actor has also lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell of Mumbai Police.
The Opposition parties have often corned the BJP over its alleged promise to voters of giving Rs 15 lakh to every Indian if it comes to power.
Did PM Modi ever make this promise?
Probably, the first known reference to 'Rs 15 lakh promise' was made by Modi in November 2013 at a rally in Kanker (Chhattisgarh).
Charging the Congress over corruption and black money, the then Gujarat Chief Minister had said, "If, even once, the money hoarded by these crooks in banks abroad... even if we bring only that back, every poor Indian would get Rs 15 to Rs 20 lakh, just like that. There's so much money."
These days, a lot of fake videos, created through Deepfake technology, is surfacing online. The timely clarification has put an end to unnecessary issues as the elections for the Lok Sabha begin on April 19.
On the work front, Khan is currently busy with 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. Directed by his ex-wife Kiran Rao, it has Genelia D'Souza in the female lead.
