You Have Enemies Across The World, Will Protect You: 'Daiva' Tells Kantara Actor Rishab Shetty

Actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty and his wife have taken part in the annual 'Daiva Nema' ritual at Derebail in Mangaluru.

The ceremony, held in honor of deities Varahi Panjurli and Jarandaya, turned into a divine experience for Shetty. During the ritual, he reportedly confided his struggles related to the film to the presiding 'Daiva' (refers to divine spirits or deities unique to coastal Karnataka), who responded with both a stark warning and comforting assurance.

What 'Daiva' Said?

"You have enemies across the world. There are those who seek to destroy your home and your work," the deity is said to have warned. "But do not fear. The 'Daiva' you believe in will never abandon you." The spirit further assured, "Though I won't reveal who is behind this, I will shield you from harm. Make a vow of service, and all will be set right within five months."

This powerful message has reignited hope among fans and the film crew alike, who believe that Kantara Chapter 1 is destined to succeed, despite the trials faced during its making.

Kantara 2

Set against the backdrop of Tulunadu traditions and 'Daiva' worship, the film, which is a sequel to Kantara: Chapter 1, is expected to unravel the mythic origins of divine spirits like Panjurli.

Though filming has been underway for some time, the journey hasn't been without turbulence. The production has encountered multiple setbacks-from an accident involving junior artists to controversies over alleged misuse of explosives during forest shoots. Still, the project remains on track, with the release date now locked in for October 2.

Take a Poll

Reportedly set during the Kadamba dynasty-a crucial period in Karnataka's history-the film may trace the origins of Panjurli 'Daiva' and connect to the fate of the protagonist's father from the first film. The narrative is expected to weave together folklore, history, and divine mysticism. The first look poster of the movie had indicated that the movie might have links on how Tulu Nadu became 'Parashurama Kshetra' (meaning: Land of Lord Parashu Rama).

Going by the first look released last year, Rishab Shetty will be seen as a fierce warrior.

Directed by Rishab Shetty himself, the screenplay is co-written by Anirudh Mahesh and Shanil Guru. Music will be composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath, who also scored the original. The film also required Shetty to undergo intense Kalaripayattu training, a glimpse of which he shared with fans last year.
