Recently, veteran photographer Ramakant Munde shared an interesting insight into how the entertainment media operated in those days. He revealed that there was an unwritten rule in the industry that everyone was aware of.

In an interview, Munde recalled that photographers were informally instructed not to click pictures of Dimple Kapadia and Sunny Deol together. The two actors were often linked romantically in media reports over the years, although neither of them ever publicly confirmed their relationship.

Munde mentioned that even though the actors were often present at the same film sets, public events, or industry gatherings, they preferred not to be photographed together. "Everyone in the media knew this," he said, explaining that whenever they appeared at the same venue, photographers would receive a message asking them to avoid taking joint pictures.

How Were The Instructions Passed Around?

Munde revealed that the requests came through members of their team. They would personally approach photographers or, at some events, a subtle signal would be enough to communicate that photographs were not wanted.

The veteran photographer explained that the media respected these wishes. Compared to today, it was easier for stars to maintain their boundaries back then. Nowadays, paparazzi are under intense pressure to capture every aspect of a celebrity's personal life.

What Celebrity Coverage Looked Like Back Then

Munde said that audiences and publishers had very different expectations in those days. The focus was mainly on glamorous and visually appealing photographs rather than personal relationships.

He noted that images of actors in stylish outfits, jewellery, makeup, and polished looks were more appreciated in magazines. Private meetings between celebrities or spending time together did not generate the same level of public interest that they do today.

The Rumours That Never Went Away

Speculation about Sunny Deol and Dimple Kapadia's relationship has circulated for decades. The rumours gained fresh attention in 2017 when a video of the two holidaying in London went viral online. In the clip, they appeared to be holding hands, sparking widespread discussion on X and other platforms.

In 2023, Dimple also grabbed attention when she watched Sunny Deol's blockbuster film Gadar 2 in a theatre. She kept a low profile by hiding her long hair under a cap but still posed for photographers.

The pair worked together in several films throughout their careers, including Manzil Manzil, Arjun, Aag Ka Gola, and Narasimha. Their repeated collaborations only added fuel to the long-standing rumours surrounding their personal lives.

Several media reports have claimed that Sunny Deol, despite being married, treated Dimple Kapadia like a wife. Speculation has also suggested that their relationship may have contributed to her separation from late superstar Rajesh Khanna. However, neither actor has ever publicly acknowledged these claims.

Dimple married Rajesh Khanna in 1973, just months before the release of her debut film Bobby. Their daughter Twinkle Khanna was born in 1974, followed by Rinke Khanna in 1977. Although the couple separated in 1984, they never officially divorced.
