Why Karisma Kapoor Chose Not to Remarry After Her Divorce With Sunjay Kapur

Karisma Kapoor, one of Bollywood's most celebrated stars from the '90s, has consistently kept her personal life private since her high-profile divorce from businessman Sunjay Kapur, who passed away on June 12 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Despite media speculation and public interest, Karisma has shown no inclination toward remarriage - a decision that appears rooted in her commitment to motherhood, personal independence, and emotional contentment.

Why Karisma Kapoor Chose Not to Remarry After Her Divorce With Sunjay Kapur

Life After Divorce: A Quiet Resolve

Following her divorce from Sunjay Kapur in 2016, Karisma returned to Mumbai and shifted her focus entirely to raising her two children, Samaira and Kiaan Kapoor. Choosing a low-profile lifestyle, she has embraced motherhood as her primary role, while occasionally returning to the limelight through selective work in web series, endorsements, and fashion collaborations.

While she has rarely addressed the subject of remarriage directly, a 2022 Instagram AMA gave fans a small glimpse into her perspective. When asked if she would consider marrying again, she shared a playful "Depends" GIF - indicating she's not entirely closed off to the idea but is clearly not actively seeking it either.

Randhir Kapoor: "She Is a Happy Mother"

In several interviews, Karisma's father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, has offered insights into his daughter's mindset post-divorce. In a candid conversation with DNA, he said: "I think Lolo is very well settled and happy. I have never discussed the issue of marriage with her, but if she does plan to, she will always have my blessings. But I don't think she wants to get married. She is a happy mother, and if she wants, she can get married any time, but there is no step in that direction right now."

Randhir further praised her parenting, stating: "Karisma is an excellent mother who dotes on her children and probably doesn't feel the need to get married."

Back in 2016, amid her difficult divorce, he had also told Hindustan Times, "I was never in favour of her marrying him," referring to Sunjay Kapur.

A Past of Public Scrutiny

Before her marriage to Sunjay, Karisma was engaged to actor Abhishek Bachchan in 2002. The engagement, which had been officially announced by Amitabh Bachchan himself, was unexpectedly called off months later. While neither family confirmed the reasons, rumours circulated that Karisma's mother, Babita, sought financial assurances via a prenuptial agreement - a move reportedly not acceptable to the Bachchans.

Later, after her divorce, Karisma was briefly linked with Mumbai-based businessman Sandeep Toshniwal. Though the two were seen together often, the relationship reportedly ended amicably, and Karisma returned to focusing solely on her family life.

Still in the Spotlight - On Her Own Terms

Though Karisma has chosen not to remarry, she hasn't retreated from public life. She remains active on social media, continues to endorse brands, appears on fashion runways, and acts in occasional digital series. Her most recent public appearance was at the prayer meet for her ex-husband Sunjay Kapur.

In many ways, Karisma Kapoor has carved a path distinct from Bollywood's traditional expectations of women post-divorce. She has chosen stability, emotional peace, and the happiness of her children over societal pressure to remarry.

Her quiet strength, devotion to family, and ability to maintain grace under public scrutiny have earned her not just admiration as an actress, but also respect as a woman who has taken control of her own narrative - on her own terms.
