What Went Wrong As Karan Johar Unfollows Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas And Other Celebrities?

Filmmaker Karan Johar has recently found himself surrounded with social media gossip. As eagle-eyed fans caught that the director-producer has unfollowed various prominent Bollywood personalities, which sparked immense widespread speculation.

Netizens quickly caught up on this action and noticed that the celebrities Karan Johar used to follow previously, were no longer on his list.

Celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Ananya Panday, Kartik Aaryan, and Manish Malhotra were prominently among those reportedly missing. Fans also noticed that Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra were no longer part of his following list.

Earlier, Priyanka Chopra Jonas remained one of the few industry figures Karan continued to follow. However, the filmmaker has unfollowed her too. At present, he follows only 53 accounts on the platform.

Karan Johar's Reaction On The Speculation

As rumours and theories started to spread online, Karan decided to address the situation himself. Karan later decided to clarify the situation on his Instagram stories. He justified that his decision was not linked to any personal disagreements or professional fallout.

Karan referred this major step as "digital detox," explaining that he was intentionally choosing to reduce his social media engagement. "It's a DIGITAL DETOX!!!! Am unfollowing everyone to reduce my time and energy spent on the gram!!!" he wrote.

The filmmaker also asked people not to blow this matter out of proportion or turn it into unnecessary controversy. In the note, he further added, "This can't be national news, for God's sake... please clickbait something else! This is irrelevant."

Work Front

If we talk about Karan Johar's projects, he continues to stay busy with a tied-up schedule of projects handled under the banner of Dharma Productions. On May 22, his latest production Chand Mera Dil released in theatres. The film features Ananya Panday and Lakshya.

For the upcoming days, multiple projects have been lined up by Dharma Productions. These include Udta Teer, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, as well as Naagzilla, headlined by Kartik Aaryan.

As these projects are all lined up to release, Karan's focus remains clearly on expanding his production portfolio, even after the social media buzz surrounding his Instagram activity.
