'We Want To Change Citizenship Too’: Adnan Sami Recounts Candid Talk With Pakistanis

During his recent tour to Azerbaijan, singer Adnan Sami described a conversation he had with some Pakistanis. Adnan posted on X (previously Twitter) on Monday, claiming that while strolling around Baku's streets, he came across a bunch of Pakistani boys. "The young men praised Adnan for leaving Pakistan when he did and expressed regret about the state of their country," he said.

"You are very fortunate, sir," they added. You moved out of Pakistan early. We'd also like to switch our citizenship. We despise our military. "They have ruined our nation!" Adnan posted on X. He replied that he said, "I knew this long ago," to them. The singer praised the youngsters as "very sweet" and appeared to understand their annoyance.

Born in London, Adnan Sami was originally a Pakistani national before obtaining Indian citizenship. Years after moving to India, in December 2015, he was awarded Indian nationality.

Recently, Adnan was involved in an online spat with former Pakistani Information and Broadcasting Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain. After the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir - in which 26 people, most of them tourists, were killed, the Indian government issued a directive asking all Pakistani nationals in the country to leave before their visas expired. In response to an Indian journalist's post about the directive, Fawad sarcastically remarked, "What about Adnan Sami?"

Adnan hit back sharply, calling the former minister an "illiterate idiot" and dismissing the comment outright.

Adnan underwent a convoluted legal process before becoming an Indian citizen. On March 13, 2001, he entered India for the first time using a visitor's visa that the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had provided. The visa had a one-year expiration date and was repeatedly extended. The Pakistani government later declined to renew his passport after it expired on May 26, 2015, having been granted on May 27, 2010. Adnan was inspired by this to ask the Indian government to allow his stay on humanitarian grounds, and his plea was ultimately approved.

Thanks to hits like Kabhi To Nazar Milao, Tera Chehra, Lift Kara De, and Bhar Do Jholi, Adnan has gained recognition in the Indian music business over the years.
