Vrusshabha Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Mohanlal-Starrer?

Mohanlal is all set to close out 2025 with a big-ticket release, and fans couldn't have asked for a more fitting year-ender. After multiple delays and a long wait, Vrusshabha is finally hitting the big screens on December 25, turning Christmas into a full-blown cinematic celebration.

The festive release also means the film will lock horns at the box office with Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, setting up an interesting clash.

Directed by Nanda Kishore, Vrusshabha is a fantasy action drama that has been in the making for quite some time. The film has been mounted on a grand scale and is being shot simultaneously in Malayalam and Telugu, clearly aiming for a wide South Indian audience and beyond.

Mohanlal headlines the film in the titular role, and from what has been revealed so far, he will be seen in dual roles, adding to the excitement.

The supporting cast includes Samarjit Lankesh, Nayan Sarika, Ragini Dwivedi, Ajay, and Neha Saxena, bringing together a mix of familiar and fresh faces. Backed jointly by Connekkt Media and Balaji Motion Pictures, in association with Abhishek S Vyas Studios, the project has had a long and detailed production journey. Principal photography began in July 2023 and wrapped up only in February 2025, with the team shooting in multiple schedules across locations.

Ever since the trailer dropped, Vrusshabha has been creating serious buzz on social media. The visuals look massive, the action sequences are clearly designed to be larger than life, and there are strong mythological undertones woven into the narrative. Add to that Mohanlal's commanding screen presence, and fans are already calling it a proper "theatre movie."

Originally planned for a November 6 release, the film was postponed to December 25, a date that now feels perfect given its scale and festive appeal. Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, C.K. Padma Kumar, Varun Mathur, Saurabh Mishra, Abhishek S Vyas, Praveer Singh, Vishal Gurnani, and Juhi Parekh Mehta, with Vimal Lahoti as co-producer, Vrusshabha is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious projects in Mohanlal's recent filmography.

The story follows Aadi Deva Varma, a successful businessman whose life is defined by wealth and his deep bond with his son. His reality is shattered, however, when his son returns from a visit to their ancestral village. The journey triggers a series of haunting, vivid visions that pull Aadi back through the corridors of time.

The Ghost of a Royal Past
Aadi discovers that in a previous era, he ruled as Raja Vijayendra Vrusshabha, a powerful king. As these memories bleed into his modern existence, his psyche begins to fracture. The confusion of living two lives at once threatens his sanity, but the true horror lies in a startling karmic revelation: his greatest arch-rival from his past life has been reborn as his own son.

A Battle of Blood and Karma
The film transitions into an intense emotional thriller as Aadi grapples with an impossible dilemma. He is caught between his fatherly love for the boy he raised and the ancient enmity toward the soul dwelling within him.
