Vishwambhara OTT Release: Netflix, Prime, Zee5 In Race To Bag Digital Rights Of Chiranjeevi's Vishwambhara

Chiranjeevi's socio-fantasy drama Vishwambhara, directed by Mallidi Vassishta, is reportedly facing an uphill battle in securing an OTT deal, which is casting a shadow over its release plans.

The high-budget venture, with Trisha playing the female lead, was earlier slated to hit the screens on January 10, 2025. However, the makers vacated the Sankranthi slot to make way for Ram Charan's Game Changer. Unfortunately, the latter's box office failure has only added to the uncertainty surrounding the Telugu movie.

OTT Struggles

While several big-ticket films are quickly booking prime holiday release dates, Vishwambhara remains in limbo. The absence of an OTT deal has further complicated the film's release prospects, with pre-business figures reportedly falling below expectations. Though there were murmurs of a May 9, 2025 release, the lack of clarity from the production team and unfinished portions of the shoot, coupled with significant pending post-production work, have dimmed those hopes.

Negotiations with Netflix, which initially showed interest, have hit roadblocks due to the platform's shifting strategies. Amazon Prime Video remains hesitant to acquire films unless they have prior business ties with the production house, leaving Zee5 as the only viable option. However, Zee5 is highly selective in its acquisitions, prolonging the negotiation process. Meanwhile, ETV's offers are on the lower side, and Aha has almost ceased its acquisitions, reportedly being up for sale, rumours say.

The ongoing OTT turmoil isn't limited to small and medium-budget films alone- even biggies like Vishwambhara are grappling with the shifting dynamics of the digital streaming landscape. Fans, already irked by the lack of updates, are growing restless as the film's fate hangs in the balance. With the clock ticking and competition intensifying, the makers of Vishwambhara must navigate the OTT maze swiftly to avoid further delays and reignite anticipation among Chiranjeevi's loyal fanbase.
