Vijay's Mersal Producer Suffered Rs 100 Crore Loss: S Ve Shekher's Explosive Claim

Veteran actor S Ve Shekher has claimed that the producer of Thalapathy Vijay's Mersal suffered huge losses, although it was declared a box-office hit.

Speaking to a YouTube channel, he said, "My close friend Murali Ramanarayanan, who produced Mersal starring Vijay, incurred a loss of nearly ₹100 crores and is now unable to continue producing films. When he approached Vijay again for another project, Vijay refused to give callsheet again."

For the unversed, Mersal was declared a blockbuster at the box office. As per trade reports, it had grossed a little over Rs 244 crore at the worldwide box office.

In Tamil Nadu alone, it had raked in Rs 125.1 crore with a distributor's share of Rs 68.4 crore. The movie was funded by Thenandal Studio Limited and directed by Atlee Kumar. Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen in the lead roles.

The movie dealt around how the medical system has become a money-minting business and exposed how the common man suffers from the high medical cost. It also took potshots at the GST and Digital India campaign by the Centre.

This eventually created a controversy as the Tamil Nadu BJP attacked the movie. Nonetheless, it helped the movie to do good business.

However, S Ve Shekher's claims contradict what the trade trackers had claimed earlier. The makers are yet to respond to the senior actor's allegations.

Leo Controversy

It has to be noted that questions were being raised on social media about the accuracy of its official box office numbers of Vijay's other movie Leo. While the makers had proudly announced that the film grossed ₹600 crore worldwide by the end of its run, a fresh round of claims online suggests otherwise.

On social media, Rajini fans have been circulating what they claim to be "evidence" from Leo's production house, KAL Flicks Private Limited, filed with the Income Tax Department. According to these posts, the company's financial statement shows a total revenue of ₹404 crore-far lower than the figures announced during release.
