Vijay's Last Film Jana Nayagan To Be Out On July 24

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's Jana Nayagan is likely to release on July 24.

The makers have reportedly informed overseas distributors to prepare for the film's release on that date. An official announcement is expected after the movie receives censor certification, which is likely by Friday. Reports suggest the producers have agreed to the cuts recommended by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), according to reports in the Tamil media.

Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9 during the Pongal festival. However, delays in the certification process forced the makers to postpone the release.

The CBFC's examining committee had informed the production team on December 22 that the film would receive a UA 16+ certificate, subject to 14 cuts and modifications. The certification process was later delayed after a member of the examining committee reportedly wrote to CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi, raising objections to certain scenes.

The film had come under scanner over the depiction of certain religious practices, the alleged use of Army symbols without prior approval, and several dialogues and scenes with political undertones. The matter was subsequently referred to the revising committee, prompting the makers to shelve the planned Pongal release.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead, while Bobby Deol plays the antagonist.

Meanwhile, Vijay is reportedly set to buck the industry trend by not charging ticket prices above the government-approved rates. In recent years, films featuring leading stars have often seen higher ticket prices, particularly during the opening weekend, as producers seek to capitalise on strong audience demand.
