Vijay's Jana Nayagan Finally Gets Censor Clearance, But Kids Can't Watch TN CM's Film In Theatres

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's last movie Jana Nayagan has been cleared by the CBFC with 'A' certificate on Thursday. Thus paving way for its release on July 24.

The news comes as a big relief to the legions of fans of the actor-turned-politician as the release of the Tamil flick has been delayed by six months. It was scheduled for release exactly six months ago on January 9 to coincide with the Pongal festival celebration.

While the censor board clearance has come as a relief to fans, the disappointing news is that the movie cannot be watched by children below 18 as it has bagged 'A' certificate. People below the age of 18 are not permitted to cinema halls for an A-certified movie.

Vijay enjoy huge popularity among the children and this is seen as a setback for the movie, which is made with a big budget.

The censor certificate of the movie has now been uploaded on the official website of the CBFC. Going by the certificate, the runtime of the flick is 183 minutes.

The CBFC's examining committee had informed the production team on December 22 that the film would receive a UA 16+ certificate, subject to 14 cuts and modifications. The certification process was later delayed after a member of the examining committee reportedly wrote to CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi, raising objections to certain scenes.

The film had come under scanner over the depiction of certain religious practices, the alleged use of Army symbols without prior approval, and several dialogues and scenes with political undertones. The matter was subsequently referred to the revising committee, prompting the makers to shelve the planned Pongal release.

On the other hand, the preparations for the release has already commenced and KVN Productions has already informed the overseas distributors to plan the release. The advance booking of tickets is likely to begin soon.

Jana Nayagan has Pooja Hegde playing the female lead and Bobby Deol as the antagonist.
