However, her remarks did not go well with the fans of Vijay as she was attacked for her views.

One user said, "Mam, Eelam tamils issue isslightly different. Assuming citizenship is given then entire Tamil areas in North and SL will be wiped out as they stand lose out on their claim to their land ( eelam) SL issue is ethno political issue and not to be confused with religious perecution."

In a statement, Vijay said, "It is not acceptable to implement any law like the Indian Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA) in an environment where all citizens of the country live with social harmony," the actor said in a statement. He also requested the DMK government in Tamil Nadu not to implement in the state. "The leaders should ensure that this law does not get implemented in Tamil Nadu,"

The Centre on Monday said that the rules for implementing the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) have been notified. This development opens the path for granting citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. With the issuance of the CAA rules, the BJP government will commence the process of bestowing Indian nationality upon persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India by December 31, 2014. This includes Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians.

After associating with film industry for over two decades, Vijay has forayed into politics. In February, he announced the name of his party - 'Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam'.

However, the party is yet to get its symbol and will contest in the 2026 assembly polls.
