Vashu Bhagnani Breaks Silence on David Dhawan, Ramesh Taurani and Ongoing Music Rights Controversy

Veteran producer Vashu Bhagnani has been in the entertainment industry for several decades. The filmmaker recently shared his views on his long-standing association with director David Dhawan.

In a detailed statement, he also addressed his strained ties with music producer Ramesh Taurani and the ongoing controversy surrounding the music rights linked to some of his films.

The statement comes after discussions surrounding the songs Chunari Chunari and Ishq Hona Hai reignited debates over their rightful ownership. The matter gained further attention as audiences looked forward to the release of Varun Dhawan's Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.

Bhagnani reflected on his journey in the entertainment industry. According to him, he had already established a successful audio cassette manufacturing business and built strong relationships across the music and film industries.

Bhagnani's Relationship With Tips Industries

He explained that his association with Kumar Taurani eventually led to his connection with the Taurani family through the music business. Later, he launched his production banner, Pooja Films and Pooja Entertainment. He then independently developed his film projects, partnerships, and creative ventures.

Bhagnani fondly recalled the success of Coolie No. 1. He revealed that he gifted cars to director David Dhawan and actor Govinda as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the film's blockbuster success.

During that period, Tips Industries was reportedly a 50 percent partner in the project. Bhagnani said he suggested making a joint gesture to celebrate the film's success. However, when the proposal did not receive support, he chose to move forward independently.

Bhagnani said the incident reflected a principle he has always believed in: achievements in the film industry are rarely the result of one individual and should be recognised as a shared accomplishment.

Bhagnani and David Dhawan's Collaboration

Bhagnani also addressed misconceptions regarding industry relationships and collaborations. He highlighted his professional partnership with filmmaker David Dhawan, noting that they worked together on several commercially successful films over the years.

He pointed out that he began collaborating with David Dhawan during the early stages of his production career and that the two went on to create multiple successful projects together.

'Silence Should Not Be Considered Acceptance'

The producer admitted that he had consciously chosen not to speak publicly about certain issues for many years. However, he now feels compelled to share his perspective after carrying a sense of disappointment over several developments.

Bhagnani said that silence should not be interpreted as agreement. Although he refrained from providing specific details, he acknowledged that in some instances, he felt betrayed by individuals he once considered trusted associates.

He emphasised that his intention is simply to place his version of events on record rather than engage in a public feud.

Bhagnani Advocates for Shared Earnings

One of the most significant aspects of Bhagnani's statement was his suggestion regarding future earnings generated from the music and films associated with his production house.

He said that if financial benefits continue to emerge from these works, the people who helped create them should also be recognised. In his view, actors, directors, writers, and other creative contributors deserve a share of the value generated by projects they helped bring to life.

In this context, he acknowledged filmmakers, performers, and collaborators, including David Dhawan, the late Satish Kaushik and his family, Rumi Jaffery, Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Sushmita Sen.

Bhagnani said that Pooja Entertainment has always operated like an extended family, where successes and setbacks are experienced together. He believes appreciation should be demonstrated through meaningful actions rather than merely expressed through words.

Bhagnani's Reflection on Gratitude and Fairness

The producer clarified that his remarks should not be viewed solely as legal disputes or ownership claims. Instead, he described his statement as a broader reflection on acknowledging the people who contributed to the success of these projects.

For Bhagnani, cinema has always been a collaborative art form. He stressed that when films continue to generate value years after their release, the individuals responsible for creating that legacy should not be forgotten.
