Upendra Is Inspiration For Intellectual Directors: Rajinikanth Hails Kannada Actor

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has showered praise on Kannada actor-director Upendra, calling him an "inspiration for intellectual directors" during the audio launch of their upcoming film Coolie.

Speaking at the event, Rajinikanth recalled Upendra's groundbreaking contributions to the Kannada film industry. "Upendra is an inspiration for intellectual directors. His film Om starring Shivaraj Kumar was far ahead of its time - even more bigger hit than my own Baasha," Rajinikanth said.

He further praised Upendra, the self-titled film directed and starred in by the Real Star himself, calling it "unique," and compared Upendra's creative approach to that of Coolie director Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for his unconventional storytelling.

Upendra plays a pivotal role in Coolie, which is slated for release on August 14. Interestingly, Aamir Khan has reprised the same role in the Hindi version of the film, which is also directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Upendra had earlier expressed his deep respect for Rajinikanth, once calling himself "Ekalavya" to Rajinikanth's "Dronacharya". In a recent interview, he said, "I am fortunate to learn from Rajinikanth and draw inspiration from his work. Just as Rishabh Shetty sees me as his guru, I regard Rajini sir as mine."

Upendra fondly recalled Rajinikanth attending the screening of his 2010 hit Super, and lauding the film. "When the chance to act with him came up, I didn't think twice. Sharing screen space with someone like Rajinikanth is a rare opportunity."

Reflecting on his experience, Upendra added, "Rajinikanth's calm nature, his words, and humility remind me of a Yogi. I feel truly blessed to be working with him."

He also shared one of Rajinikanth's favourite inspirational stories, about a frog race up a hill - a metaphor for perseverance in the face of negativity. "While other frogs got distracted by voices warning them of obstacles, one deaf frog kept moving and reached the top. Rajinikanth uses such stories to teach life lessons - that's the kind of wisdom he carries," Upendra said.

Coolie marks a powerful collaboration between Rajinikanth and Upendra, bringing together two South Indian powerhouses on screen under Lokesh Kanagaraj's dynamic direction.
