Internet is abuzz with the rumours of Upendra's UI gearing up for the OTT release. Speculations are rife that Upendra's multilingual movie will have its digital release on March 30.

Sources close to the makers have denied the speculations, telling Oneindia that while there were talks about an OTT deal last month, nothing has been finalized yet. "The discussions are ongoing, but no date has been locked in," the source revealed. This clearly hints that while Zee5 might be in the running for the digital rights, but the deal isn't sealed just yet.

What's the Buzz About UI?

Written and directed Upendra, UI is a futuristic sci-fi action film set in the year 2040. The movie paints a dystopian picture of the world, tackling heavy-hitting global issues like climate change, inflation, unemployment, AI dominance, warfare, and even the long shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic. With a runtime of 132 minutes, the film has been praised for its bold storytelling and stunning visuals.

Produced by G. Manoharan and Sreekanth KP, the movie has Reeshma Nanaiah and Nidhi Subbaiah playing important roles. The ensemble cast includes big names like Sadhu Kokila, Jisshu Sengupta, Murali Sharma, Indrajit Lankesh, Om Sai Prakash, P Ravi Shankar, and Achyuth Kumar. Sadly, UI also marks the final work of late director Guru Prasad, who tragically passed away last month.

The technical team boasts some heavyweights too, with Ajaneesh Loknath handling the music, Vijay Raj BG on editing duties, and HC Venu behind the camera.

Box Office Blues

Despite its critical acclaim, Upendra's movie, which was also released in Telugu, did decent business only in Karnataka. The collection was affected after the release of Kiccha Sudeep's Max. The clash reportedly dented its business, leaving fans wondering if an OTT release could give the film a second wind.

Notably, Max has already hit the OTT platform.
