Tragedy On 'Sardar 2' Sets As Stuntman Dies After Falling From 20 Feet

In a tragic incident, stuntman Ezhumalai died during a film shoot after falling from a height of 20 feet at Prasad Studios in Chennai on July 15.

The team was filming an action sequence for a movie that had just begun production a few days earlier. Ezhumalai was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed he died from a lung haemorrhage, as per the reports in the Tamil media.

The action sequence was being choreographed by Dhilip Subbarayan and Ezhumalai was performing the stunt without safety equipment. The accident occurred in front of actor Karthi.

Following the incident, the shoot has been halted, and the police are now investigating the case. The film's makers have yet to release an official statement regarding the tragedy.

The Tamil movie was launched with a formal pooja on July 12, attended by the film's lead actor Karthi, director PS Mithran, and others.

This incident is reminiscent of an earlier tragedy on the sets of Kamal Haasan's 'Indian 2' sets in 2020 where three people were killed when a 150-foot crane crashed at EVP Film City during the filming of another action sequence. The crane, which held heavy lighting equipment, collapsed, killing Krishna (assistant director), Chandran (art assistant), and Madhu (production assistant). Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal narrowly escaped injury in that accident.

The upcoming Tamil movie is a sequel to 2022 hit movie 'Sardar'. Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan, Chunky Pandey and Laila had acted in the flick which had grossed over Rs 100 crore at the box office.
