Thug Life OTT Release Update: South Versions Of Kamal Haasan's Film To Drop On Netflix On This Date?

Is Mani Ratnam's Thug Life starring Kamal Haasan ready for its early digital release? The rumours of the film hitting the OTT platform have been doing rounds for a week now.

The multi-starrer movie was released to gigantic expectations on June 5. Unfortunately, the movie did not impress viewers. As a result, rumors have been doing the rounds that this is paving the way for its early digital release.

Thug Life OTT Release Update South Versions Of Kamal Haasan s Film To Drop On Netflix On This Date

Thug Life OTT Release

Since the film has been released in Hindi, the pre-agreed clause regarding the eight-week window must be honoured, which would delay its digital debut. Nonetheless, reports claim that the makers are under pressure to release the movie early, which would mean bypassing the eight-week clause.

Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 had previously landed in trouble for not honouring the eight-week window; in that case, it is expected to be out in the first week of August. Even A-list actors' movies in Bollywood are released on OTT only after eight weeks.

To avoid being dragged into a legal dispute, the makers might release the South Indian versions of Thug Life first, while the Hindi version will be made available after eight weeks, say film industry trackers.

The fans of Kamal Haasan should not be surprised if Thug Life is released in the first week of July, possibly on July 6.

After all, Netflix has paid a bomb for the digital rights. If the speculation is to be believed, the streaming giant has acquired the rights for a massive Rs 130 crore.

Mani Ratnam Apologises

The makers of Mani Ratnam's recently released movie Thug Life have apologized to the audience as the movie has failed to live up to viewers' expectations.

In an interview, film director Mani Ratnam said, "For those who were expecting another Nayakan from the two of us, all I can say is we are sorry. It was never our intention to go back. Why should we? We wanted to do something completely different. I think more than over-expectation, it was a different expectation. The audience expected something far removed from what we delivered."

The movie's cast includes Simbu (aka Silambarasan), Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, and others.
