Thug Life OTT Release Date: Is Kamal Haasan's Tamil Film Dropping Early On Netflix?

Kamal Haasan's much-hyped movie Thug Life hit the screens last week to a massive hype, last weekend. However, the movie has failed to live up to the viewers' expectations.

The movie was released on June 5 and earned Rs 15.5 crore in India despite getting mixed reviews. It made around Rs 36 crore in the first weekend. On Monday, the business dropped big time as it made around Rs 3.62 crore.

The movie has made around Rs 40 crore in four days at the box office. As the business dropped, the speculations started doing rounds on its early release on the OTT platform.

Netflix has acquired the digital rights of Thug Life.

During the promotion of the movie, Kamal had said that the movie will follow eight-week window for its digital release so that all parties will benefit from the delayed OTT release.

The actor said, "It's not even an experiment, but the pragmatic thing to do. I am glad that the OTT partners sat down with us and agreed. It wasn't a negotiation, it was a plan. We hope others can follow this, and it will make the industry healthy."

Well, our sources say that the release of Thug Life has not been advanced and there has not been any discussion on releasing the movie early. Since the movie has seen the light of the day in Hindi, the makers have to release in OTT as per the pre-agreed terms and maintain the 8-week window.
It may be recalled that Kamal's previous film Indian 2 (Hindustani 2 in Hindi) was slapped with a notice by the Multiplex Association of India for violating the terms.
