Thudarum OTT Release: Jio Hotstar Postpones The Digital Release Of Mohanlal's Malayalam Film - Check New Date

Fans eagerly awaiting the OTT premiere of Thudarum will have to wait a little longer. The much-anticipated digital release of the summer blockbuster has been delayed.

Thudarum Digital Release Delayed

Originally scheduled to stream this week, the movie's delay comes as no surprise to those following its phenomenal performance at the box office. The decision, which also affects the family entertainer Tourist Family, is being seen as a win for the theatrical model, thanks to a thoughtful move by streaming platform Jio Hotstar.

In what industry insiders are calling a "magnanimous" gesture, the OTT giant has granted an extended theatrical window to both films-allowing them to ride the wave of their summer success without an early digital interruption. Industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai, citing sources, said that the producers themselves requested this extension, citing strong box office momentum and continued public interest.

Box Office Success

Thudarum, which hit theatres on April 25, was initially slated for an OTT release today (May 21). The film has been on a dream run, collecting ₹108.16 crore (nett) so far in India. It kicked off with ₹5.25 crore on its opening day and built strong momentum from there-earning ₹51.4 crore in its first week and another ₹35.35 crore in the second. As of the third week, it has added ₹20.8 crore to its tally.

While there's no official word yet from Jio Hotstar on the new date, buzz in the industry suggests that Thudarum may hit streaming platforms on June 5.

Directed by Tharun Moorthy and produced by M Renjith, Thudarum stars Shobana in the lead role, alongside an ensemble cast including Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, and Aarsha Chandini Baiju. The film features music by Jakes Bejoy, cinematography by Shaji Kumar, and editing by Nishadh Yusuf.

While Thudarum's digital rights may not have fetched as much as the ₹60 crore reportedly paid for Empuraan by Amazon Prime Video, its theatrical success has already sealed its status as a summer blockbuster.
