'The Imaginary' Netflix Trailer, Release Date On OTT, Other Details

Netflix recently revealed a trailer for their upcoming Japanese animated film 'The Imaginary', which is set to come out on their OTT platform on July 5, 2024.

Fans of Studio Ghibli films may recognize the style of animation in this film, as it's being worked on by Studio Ponoc, which was founded by the former lead film producer of Studio Ghibli, Yoshiaki Nishimura.

Plot Details Of The Anime Film:

The film will follow a young girl named Amanda and her imaginary friend Rudger. It will also portray the existence of other imaginary creatures, as well as an entire society built around imaginary creatures that have been forgotten over time.

One of the main conflicts of the film will be that of Rudger coping with the idea that Amanda may one day forget her, as the powers of reality crush those of imagination.

The screenwriter and producer of the film, Yoshiaki Nishimura spoke with Netflix Tudum about the animated film, stating, "This is a tale of Rudger, neither human nor animal, who is dismissed by adults as a fake, a mere figment of imagination."

Cast And Crew Details Of The Anime Film:

The animated film's screen play was written by Studio Ponoc founder, Yoshiaki Nishimura, who has worked on other Studio Ghibli films in the past, such as 'Howl's Moving Castle' and 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya'.

The film will also be directed by Yoshiyuki Momose, who worked as an animator for a lot of Studio Ghibli films, including 'Spirited Away' and 'Princess Mononoke'.

The voice acting cast for the film will include Louie Rudge-Buchanan, Evie Kiszel, Hayley Atwell, Jeremy Swift, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Christopher Swindle, Fred Tatasciore, and Kari Wahlgren.
