Rashmika Mandanna has paired up with Dheekshith Shetty for his latest movie The Girlfriend which has hit the screens on Friday. The movie is written and directed by Rahul Ravindran and bankrolled by Vidya Koppineedi & Dheeraj Mogilineni.

The movie has Hesham Abdul Wahab's music and Prashanth R Vihari has scored the background score. Krishnan Vasant has handled the cinematography while Chota K Prasad has edited the flick.

The Girlfriend Story

Aspiring author Bhooma Devi (Rashmika Mandanna) arrives at Ramalingaiah Arts & Science College in Hyderabad, determined to pursue her Master's in literature. There, she encounters Vicky (Dheekshith Shetty), a Master's student in computer science. Vicky sees in Bhooma a gentle sweetness reminiscent of his own mother, yet this admiration quickly morphs into subtle manipulation. He begins a calculated campaign of gaslighting to ensure her affections. The stage is set for a turbulent romance: How does Bhooma, initially hesitant, find herself drawn into his web? What drives Vicky's intense obsession? And when the mysterious Durga (Anu Emmanuel) enters their lives, how do the hidden threads connecting her, Bhooma, and Vicky threaten to unravel everything?

The film takes time to get going with its slow pace but picks up during the pre-interval portions, which are well done. The second half loses the plot at times and the sluggish pace continues, though it has a few standout moments again with a powerful climax.

Director Rahul Ravindran comes back with an honest film and writes it in a sensible manner. There are a few dragged out portions, but he ensures they never turn boring.

Rashmika delivers a career best performance. she is superb in this one. Dheekshith also does well, along with the rest of the cast. The music is neat and flows well with the film.

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, as it's devoid of commercial elements along with a slow pace, but it can be given a try for its honest storytelling and some hard hitting moments.
