'The Decameron' 14th Century Book Gets Netflix Adaptation, Release Date, Other Details

Netflix recently dropped a teaser for an upcoming series titled, 'The Decameron' which will be dropping on the OTT platform on 25 July, 2024.

The series, while categorised as a comedy, will touch on many heavy and taboo subjects if it remains faithful to the source material of the original books. Viewer discretion is advised.

The Decameron Book Netflix Adaptation

Plot Details Of The Series:

This Netflix series is inspired by the book of the same name, 'The Decameron' written in the 14th century by Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio. The original book is about ten people, seven young women and three young men, who run away to the Italian countryside in order to escape the black death. In order to pass the time, each person tells a tale every night. The book itself is the collection of those 100 tales.

The story can have parallels to the recent pandemic of 2020, and the director of the show acknowledges this.

Kathleen Jordan, director of the series, initially picked up the book and its stories as a means of making a series on class disparity. She spoke to Tudum, saying, "And when at times of crisis, the chasm between the haves and the have-nots grows wider and wider. Obviously, that's something we've seen in the last few years, in particular with COVID."

But the show doesn't aim to purely cover heavy or tragic topics, as it has been categorised by Netflix as a comedy-drama.

Cast Details Of The Series:

The series will be written and produced by Kathleen Jordan, who's worked on other T.V. series like Teenage Bounty Hunters and American Princess. Joining her will be producers Jenji Kohan, Blake McCormick, and Tara Herrmann.

The series will be directed by Michael Uppendahl and will cast actors Amar Chadha-Patel, Leila Farzad, Lou Gala, Karan Gill, Tony Hale, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Zosia Mamet, Douggie McMeekin, Jessica Plummer, and Tanya Reynolds.

When And Where To Watch:

Readers can watch the eight-part series exclusively on Netflix from 25 July onwards.
