'Thangalaan', 'Kanguva' Releases In Jeopardy? Studio Green Asked To Deposit Rs 1 Crore For Release
The eagerly awaited films, Vikram's 'Thangalaan' and Suriya's 'Kanguva', are facing hudles ahead of its release as the Madras High Court has ordered the production company Studio Green to deposit Rs 1 crore before each film's release.
According to Live Law, this legal issue originates from an ongoing case involving the late realtor and financier Arjunlal Sunderdas. An official assignee appointed by the High Court to manage Sunderdas' estate, who was declared insolvent, filed an execution petition against Studio Green. The production house had previously entered into a film production agreement with Sunderdas, but financial disputes arose.

Studio Green's Counterargument
Studio Green argued that they had agreed with Sunderdas to offset the financial dues by transferring the Hindi remake rights of three of their films. However, the court rejected this claim due to a lack of concrete evidence.
The Madras High Court ruled that Studio Green had not complied with a previous order to pay a substantial sum to the official assignee. To ensure the recovery of the dues, the court directed the production company to deposit Rs 1 crore before releasing both 'Thangalaan' and 'Kanguva'.
