In Chennai, the movie recorded an impressive overall occupancy rate of 79 per cent, with the morning and matinee shows nearly sold out at 84 per cent and 82 per cent occupancy, respectively, as per the data shared by the Sacnik website.

As per the report, it has earned Rs 11.7 crore on the first day at the Tamil Nadu box office.

Bengaluru, another major market for Tamil cinema, witnessed a healthy overall occupancy of 71.67 per cent, with morning and afternoon shows drawing significant crowds at 82 per cent and 83 per cent, respectively.

Smaller cities in Tamil Nadu, such as Trichy, saw the highest occupancy rates of the day, reaching 90.67 per cent. The evening shows in Trichy were nearly packed with 98 per cent occupancy, showing the film's popularity in non-metropolitan areas.

Coimbatore followed closely with an overall rate of 77 per cent, while Pondicherry had a similar success, standing at 79 per cent. Both cities saw strong attendance for their night shows at 84 per cent and 75 per cent, respectively.

On the lower end, Salem and Vellore had moderate success with overall rates of 55 per cent and 60 per cent, while Dindigul recorded one of the lowest at 51.67 per cent. Meanwhile, cities in Kerala like Kochi and Trivandrum had more modest responses, with overall occupancy rates of 38.67 per cent and 38 per cent, respectively.

However, the higher turnout in many places is because of fewer shows. For example, Chennai had 565 shows while Trichy had 43 shows.

'Thangalaan' has become the second biggest opener of 2024 after 'Indian 2' which had raked in over Rs 13 crore. However, it has beaten the opening day record of Dhanush's 'Raayan' which has collected around Rs 10 crore.
