The film now stands as the second-highest opener in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe, just behind Stree 2 which had earned ₹35 crore last year. Its strong debut also cements the Ayushmann-Rashmika pairing as one of this year's most bankable on-screen duos.

However, Thamma also underperformed relative to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which saw a stronger opening last Diwali. The Kartik Aaryan-starrer horror comedy collected ₹32 crore despite facing tough competition from Rohit Shetty's multi-starrer Singham Again.

Releasing right in the middle of the festive season, Thamma enjoys a solo run at the box office, with no major competition in sight. The only other Diwali release, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, opened to modest numbers, leaving Thamma with a clear edge.
