Tamil-Malayalam Actor Ravikumar Menon Dies At 71 In Chennai

Veteran Tamil and Malayalam film and television actor Ravikumar Menon passed away in Chennai on Friday morning at the age of 71. As reported by Onmanorama, the actor died around 9 am at a private hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for cancer. His body is expected to be brought to his residence in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, with last rites scheduled to take place over the weekend.

According to Cinema Express, the news of his passing was confirmed by his son. Ravikumar Menon breathed his last at Prashanth Hospital in Velachery. Since the announcement, fans and members of the film industry have been expressing their condolences on social media.

Born in Thrissur district, Kerala, Ravikumar Menon was the son of Malayalam film producer KMK Menon and actress Bharathi Menon. He began his acting career in 1968 with the Malayalam film Lakshaprabhu and later made his lead debut in the 1975 film Ullasa Yaathra. Over the years, he played both lead and supporting roles in a wide range of Tamil and Malayalam films.

His Tamil film credits include Aashirvadham and Avargal (both released in 1977). He remained active in the industry until 2022, with appearances in films such as Allauddinum Albhutha Vilakkum, Aarattu, CBI 5: The Brain, and Veetla Vishesham. He worked alongside cinema legends like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, and Mammootty and collaborated with esteemed directors including J Sasikumar and K Balachander.

Ravikumar Menon also made a mark in television, beginning with the 1997 Raj TV show Iyandhira Paravai from the Marmadesam series. He later appeared in Jannal: Marabu Kavithaigal on Sun TV and most recently played a cameo in Kannedhirey Thondrinal on Kalaignar TV. Though he acted in the Telugu serial Anubandham, most of his television work was in Tamil and Malayalam.
