Samantha's Father Joseph Prabhu Passes Away

Joseph Prabhu, father of actress Samantha, passed away. The actress has announced the news with an emotional post that read: "Until we meet again, Dad."

Just weeks ago, she had spoken about her childhood insecurities that arose from her father's critical words. She said, "All my life growing up, I had to fight for validation. My father was kind of like; I think most Indian parents are like that and they think they are protecting you, and they will be like, 'You're actually not that smart.'"

She further added, "This is just the standard of Indian education. That's why even you can get a first rank.' When you say that to a child, I really believed for the longest time that I'm not smart and not good enough."

His words had big impact in her early days in film industry as she struggled to cope with success. When Ye Maaya Chesave became a blockbuster and people showered me with praise, I didn't know how to accept it. I wasn't used to it. Success does two things: either you think you're invincible, or you feel undeserving of the love and praise you get. For me, it was the latter," she added.

Samantha started her career with Gautham Menon's Ye Maaya Chesave (2010). She paired up with her ex-husband Naga Chaitanya and she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut - South. In her career, she has worked in with most of the big star of her times including Junior NTR, Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, Suriya, Vijay, and Sivakarthikeyan.

The actress, who is basking in the success of her Amazon series Citadel: Honey Bunny, spoke about her divorce from Naga Chaitanya. Samantha said, "I mean, man, with everything that has happened in my personal life in 2021, I really have no expectations (from the future). All my carefully laid plans have crumbled, so I have no expectations. I am open to whatever the future has in store for me. I just know that I will give it my very best."

"Many things were said about me that were absolutely untrue. But what held me back, I remember having this conversation with myself when things were really, really crappy and they were really, really... absolute lies were being spread. And there were many times when I wanted to come out and say, this is not true, let me tell you the truth," she added.
