'Salaar' Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad; Find Out From Viewers' Words

The day is here. The much-hyped 'Salaar' has opened largely to positive reviews from the fans and the audience.

The action-packed entertainer has Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the leads with Shruti Haasan playing the female lead. Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy, Mime Gopi and others are in the supporting cast. 'KGF' creator Prashanth Neel has directed the movie which is bankrolled by Hombale Films.

Neel has retained the 'KGF' technical team for 'Salaar' as well. Ravi Basrur has scored the music and Bhuvan Gowda has handled the cinematography with Ujwal Kulkarni editing the movie.

The movie is a remake of Prashanth Neel's hit Kannada film 'Ugramm'. However, he has made a lot of changes in the script for this latest flick.

'Salaar' Story

In a place called Khansar, Raja Mannar envisions his son, Vardharaja Mannar, as his rightful heir. However, a clandestine plot brews among Raja Mannar's ministers and advisors, orchestrating a coup d'état with hired armies from Russia and Serbia, intending to eliminate both father and son. Vardharaja, evading the impending threat, flees Khansar and crosses paths with his childhood companion, Deva. Upon learning of the perilous situation, Deva is determined to ensure Vardharaja's ascendancy as the unchallenged successor of Khansar.

The drama around the friendship and whether it survives the test of time forms the crux of the story.

'Salaar' Review

'Salaar' opens with a somewhat lackluster first half, marked by a subdued hero characterization, with the exception of two standout blocks. Despite this, the interval brings a surge of high intensity, paving the way for a more engaging action drama in the second half. Notably, a few action sequences manage to captivate, contributing to the film's overall appeal and making it worthy of at least a one-time viewing due to its grand scale.

One standout moment involves a well-designed fight scene where Deva rescues a girl, accompanied by effectively written heroic dialogues that, despite their brutality, leave a lasting impact.

Unfortunately, the first half is somewhat weighed down by overly dramatic roles played by Shruthi Haasan and Easwari Rao, and a somewhat lacklustre background score. The real showdown is poised to unfold, promising to compensate for the initial sluggishness.

The narrative unfolds with suspense surrounding Shruthi Haasan's character, yet to reveal the reasons behind her actions. Salaar commenced with the foundation of a promise between two friends-Deva's commitment to his companion. Karnataka Talkies: The film starts off well with a thunderous intro for #Prabhas. Coalmine fight sequence is a major highlight in the movie followed by adrenaline rushing interval. Prithviraj intro was another show stealer and a very well developed characterization. BGM was one of the drawbacks, could have been better. Prabhas's screen-presence and characterization is probably the best since #Baahubali series, definitely a mighty comeback for the star!

Apart from a few negatives like the music and emotional sequences connection at parts, on a whole its a Mass high octane film which keeps audiences entertained. GO FOR IT

Venky Reviews: #Salaar Decent 1st Half! A Very Good intro block and interval block stand out!! The rest runs on a mystery element so far and is merely a setup. A big 2nd half awaits.
Overall A Satisfactory Action Drama that has great action but lacks emotional connect for the most part!
The drama engages in parts but feels repetitive and slow at others. Interval block and a few other blocks are great but what lies in between is not so effective and a little confusing at times. BGM is one of the biggest let downs of the film. Nevertheless, seeing Prabhas in a mass avatar is a feast along with a few Neel mark elevation blocks that hold the film together. Watchable!

Manobala: #Prabhas as Deva excels in this relentless rollercoaster of adrenaline-pumping action film. #PrashanthNeel transcends the boundaries of the typical action genre, delivering a blend of fights & elevations. After securing hat-trick blockbusters, the director has managed to continue his success streak with Salaar Cease Fire. Prithviraj aptly fits Vardharaja Mannar role while Jagapathi Babu shines as his dad. Although it would appease action enthusiasts looking for fleeting entertainment, the BGM definitely needs further enhancement. The wait for Shouryaanga Parvam BEGINS.

#Salaar didn't live up to the hype for me. The characters lacked depth and their motivations were unclear. The action sequences are good, while visually impressive but felt repetitive and didn't add much to the overall story.

kVsayz: Extra ordinary action sequences, Prabhas screen presence works big time for #Salaar on the flip side drama drags in parts and the BGM is average. This is no #KGF but on the whole Neel delivers 3/5

Moviepaithiyam: Decent movie with good Prabhas and a great Prithviraj. Elevations works in places. Problem is unlike KGF the emotional connect is missing. Prashant neel tried to put too many things in and ends up confusing at times. Good Action and decent BGM.
