Suriya's Retro has got a great start at the Tamil Nadu box office. Without special early morning shows in Tamil Nadu, the film has got a flying start across the state.
Retro 1st Day Box Office Collection
Released in over 500 screens in the state, the movie recorded 75.91% occupancy on the first day. Since it was a May 1 Labour Day holiday, the theatres witnessed packed houses at most centres. It increased to 83.91% but dropped to 78.23%. The night shows registered over 78.23% occupancy.

According to theatre tracking data shared by Sacnilk, Retro posted an overall occupancy rate of 86.67% in Chennai, with 494 shows - the highest among all cities. The morning shows had 83% occupancy rate and peaked 89% during the afternoon. The evening shows retained the momentum with 88% occupancy.
Other major cities like Coimbatore (84.33%), Madurai (79%), and Pondicherry (79.33%) also reported healthy figures. Dindigul recorded 93.33% overall occupancy across its 22 shows, with the afternoon slot touching a massive 99% and evening shows at 95%. Trichy followed close behind with 89% occupancy across 51 shows, suggesting a robust response in central Tamil Nadu.
Salem (65.67%) and Vellore (71%) showed comparatively modest numbers.
In Kerala, Kochi (86%) and Trivandrum (76.67%) showed impressive traction, particularly for a Tamil release - likely boosted by actor Joju George's presence in the cast.
Bengaluru saw good response with an overall occupancy of 68% across 332 shows, with the afternoon shows faring the best at 75%.
Mumbai recorded a high 89.67% occupancy despite hosting only 20 shows. This suggests strong appeal among the multiplex audience and Tamil diaspora. On the other hand, Delhi-NCR posted the weakest figures with just 45.33% occupancy, notably low during the morning (24%) but improving slightly by evening (58%).
The Telugu version had an overall occupancy of 38.94%.
