Ram Gopal Varma Reviews Dhurandhar 2, Says ‘Turned Heroes Into Gods And Audiences Into Sheep'

Ram Gopal Varma has delivered a scathing, no-holds-barred critique of Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has grabbed attention with his bold and intense review of Dhurandhar 2. In a striking remark, he wrote, "The Dhurandhar 2 is a HORROR."

However, he clarified that it is not a horror for audiences, but for filmmakers who have built their careers on loud, unrealistic, and formula-driven cinema. According to him, "It is a horror for all filmmakers who built their careers and their fortunes on dumbed down, over the top cinema... The cinema that demanded the brain to be left at home."

Criticism of 'Loud and Masala' Films

Varma strongly criticised the kind of films filled with excessive drama and exaggerated storytelling. He said such cinema was "rammed down our throats full of LOUDNESS and MASALA," and added that this style may soon struggle to survive.

His comments suggest that the audience is moving away from such content and looking for something more meaningful.

A New Kind of Hero in Dhurandhar 2

Talking about Ranveer Singh's role, Varma praised the film for breaking the image of the "perfect" hero.

He wrote, "In Dhurandhar 2, @RanveerOfficial killed all those heroes who never bleed and never feel pain... and gave birth to a true real hero, flawed, yet dangerous and unpredictable."

He further explained that this new kind of hero does not rely on loud background music or forced heroism, but instead earns respect through actions.

Realistic Action vs Unrealistic Stunts

Varma also criticised traditional action scenes that ignore logic. He described them as moments "where men are thrown fifty feet in the air... survive explosions that would vaporise cities, and still deliver punch dialogues."

According to him, Dhurandhar 2 changes this pattern by showing action that "actually hurts, that actually bleeds," making older styles look "cheap, fake, and embarrassingly ridiculous."

A Shift in Audience Thinking

The filmmaker believes that audiences are evolving and becoming more aware of what they watch. He suggested that after seeing a realistic and psychologically strong character, viewers may no longer connect with surface-level portrayals.

He wrote that heroes built only on looks and style will now appear like "clowns in a circus," especially when compared to characters with real depth.

Praise for Director Aditya Dhar

Varma had high praise for director Aditya Dhar, calling the film more than just entertainment.

He said, "Dhurandhar 2 is not just a film. It is a verdict."
He added that Dhar has "cut off the head of that kind of cinema... the one that insulted the intelligence of the audience."

Calls It a 'Reset Button' for Indian Cinema

In a follow-up post, Varma went even further in his praise, calling the film a turning point for the industry.

He wrote, "The #Dhurandhar2 is not a film .. it is a RESET BUTTON for INDIAN CINEMA ..it will be foolish on all film makers part not to forget all films which were made before March 19 th 2026 and starting from March 19 th 2026 onwards everybody should bench mark all their to be made films with #Dhurandhar2 or else they will PERISH in it's FIRE."

This statement highlights his belief that the film has set a new standard that future filmmakers will need to follow.

In a strong closing note, Varma warned filmmakers who still follow old formulas. He said that if they do not rethink their approach, "even GOD can't save their SPIRITS."
