Ram Gopal Varma Reacts To 3-Month Jail Sentence in Cheque Bounce Case
Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has addressed the three-month jail sentence handed down by the Andheri Magistrate Court in Mumbai over a cheque bounce case. The court also issued a non-bailable warrant against him. Varma took to 'X' (formerly Twitter) to respond:
"I would like to clarify the punishment imposed by the Andheri court. This case involves an incident from seven years ago, where a ₹2.38 lakh cheque issued to my former employee bounced. My lawyers are handling the court proceedings, and since the case is sub judice, I cannot provide further comments," Varma stated in his tweet.

The court sentenced Varma to three months in jail and ordered him to pay ₹3.72 lakh to the complainant within three months. If he fails to make the payment, he will face an additional three months of imprisonment.
The case, filed in 2018 by Mahesh Chandra, claims that the ₹2.38 lakh cheque had bounced. Despite the seven years of ongoing legal battles, Varma reportedly failed to appear in court, prompting the court to issue a non-bailable warrant before passing the verdict.
