Prakash Raj Bats For Release Of Fawad Khan-Starrer 'Abir Gulaal': 'People Have Right To Choose'

Prakash Raj has come out in support for Pakistani actor Fawad Khan-starrer Bollywood film, 'Abir Gulaal'. The movie was Pakistani heartthrob's comeback in Bollywood after many years.

The romantic drama was scheduled to hit cinemas on May 9. However, following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the film sparked backlash.

According to government sources cited by PTI, 'Abir Gulaal' will no longer be permitted to release in India.

In response, renowned actor Prakash Raj has criticised the decision, stating that he does not support the banning of any films, regardless of their ideological stance.

What Prakash Raj Said

In an interview with The Lallantop, Prakash Raj said, "I'm not in favour of banning any film, whether it's right-wing or a propaganda piece. Let the public decide. People have the right to choose. You can't ban films - unless it involves pornography or child abuse. But for an ideology? Let it come, why not?"

He continued, "Nowadays, anyone can claim offence. 'I'll cut off Deepika Padukone's nose! I'll behead her!' What's the point of that? Shah Rukh Khan - just over a colour? Besharam Rang... they can stir controversy over anything they like. And the current government allows it, just to instil fear in society."

His remarks referred to the protests surrounding the release of Padmaavat, during which Deepika Padukone received threats.

He also alluded to the uproar over Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan song Besharam Rang, in which the actress wore an orange bikini - a moment that drew the ire of some right-wing groups.

About the 'Abir Gulaal' Controversy

Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi and produced by Vivek Agrawal, 'Abir Gulaal' was a romantic drama featuring Fawad Khan in the lead role.

In addition, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) reaffirmed its stance on a ban against Pakistani talent.

They called for full non-cooperation with Pakistani actors, singers, and technicians across the Indian film and entertainment industry.
