Not Vijay's 'Leo' Or SRK's 'Jawan', This Movie Is Most Watched Indian Film In Netflix In 2023

Not Shah Rukh Khan's hit movie 'Jawan' or Thalapathy Vijay's Tamil movie 'Leo', but Kareena Kapoor's 'Jaane Jaan' is the most-viewed Indian movie in the second half of 2023 on Netflix.

Indian series and movies amassed over one billion views on Netflix in 2023, with 'Jaane Jaan' emerging as the most-watched film and 'The Railway Men' as the most-watched series, according to Netflix's second engagement report.

The report, titled 'What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report,' showcased the streaming service's viewership data from July to December 2023. Globally, subscribers watched about 90 billion hours of content on Netflix during this period.

From India, Sujoy Ghosh's 'Jaane Jaan' led the rankings as the most-watched movie on Netflix with 20.2 million views. The film is an adaptation of Keigo Higashino's 2005 Japanese novel 'The Devotion of Suspect X.'

The film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan as a single mother entangled in a murder, with Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma in supporting roles. The movie was premiered on Netflix on September 21, 2023. It received positive reviews from critics, who particularly praised the performances of the lead cast.

Following closely were Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' with 16.2 million views and Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Khufiya' with 12.1 million views. This movie was one of the biggest blockbusters in India. It minted over Rs 1,148 at the box office.

Other notable titles included Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' (11.5 million views), 'Lust Stories 2' (9.2 million views), 'Dream Girl 2' (8.2 million views), and the true-crime documentary 'Curry and Cyanide' (8.2 million views).

Among the series, 'The Railway Men,' starring Kay Kay Menon, Babil Khan, and Divyenndu, was the top title. Set against the backdrop of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Leak, the series garnered 10.6 million views.

On the other hand, Vijay's 'Leo' was one of the biggest hits at the South Indian box office. Lokesh Kanagaraj's film had Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja and Trisha in the key roles.
