Kannada Cinema Doesn't Respect Talent: Telugu Actress Soumya Rao Creates Controversy

Telugu TV actress Soumya Rao Nadig has found herself at the center of a controversy after making disparaging remarks about the Kannada film industry in a viral video. Her comments have drawn widespread criticism, especially from fans and stakeholders of the Kannada cinema.

In the video, Soumya stated, "I don't have respect for the Kannada film industry. They don't encourage new talent, and that's why it remains a small industry. It will only shrink further in the future." She contrasted this with the Telugu film industry, saying, "The Telugu industry has grown because of its large-heartedness and welcoming attitude towards talent from different languages. It will continue to grow."

Kannada Industry And Casting Couch

When reminded of blockbuster Kannada films like KGF and Kantara, Soumya dismissed their impact, claiming, "That was three years ago. Nothing noteworthy has come out since then. I'm not criticizing Kannada artists, but the industry as a whole. Nobody encourages talent there. I've had bad experiences, including facing issues like the casting couch."

She clarified that the casting couch problem isn't exclusive to the Kannada film industry, saying it exists across industries, including Bollywood. "The casting couch is everywhere. It's up to individuals whether they participate or not," she remarked.

Early Career and Shift to Telugu Industry

Born in Shivamogga, Karnataka, Soumya began her acting career in the Kannada industry but later moved to Andhra Pradesh, citing a lack of opportunities in her home state. She has since established herself in Telugu and Tamil television.

Soumya made her Tamil TV debut in 2018 with the popular serial Roja and later acted in shows like Nenjam Marappadhillai, Valli, Minnale, and Thirumathi Hitler. She entered the Telugu TV industry in 2021 with Srimanthudu and is currently hosting the comedy show Jabardasth.
