Nicolas Cage Chose Adaptation Over Spider-Man: Here’s What You Need To Know

Nicolas Cage has once again spoken about the unconventional path he has taken throughout his decades-long career. He emphasised that he never wanted to be confined to playing only one type of character.

At the premiere of Spider-Noir at Regal Times Square in New York City, the Oscar-winning actor opened up about his thoughts on portraying both heroes and villains on screen.

Cage explained that he does not like limiting himself and instead prefers exploring every shade of storytelling. According to him, both protagonists and antagonists play equally important roles in films, and the real excitement comes from constantly shifting between different types of characters.

Looking back at the early 2000s, Cage revealed that during the development of Spider-Man, he had discussions with Sam Raimi about possibly playing the Green Goblin.

However, he later chose to star in Adaptation instead, describing it as a smaller, more emotionally layered noir-inspired project that felt right for him at the time.

Cage's Thoughts On The Spider-Man Character

The actor also shared his thoughts on the Spider-Man character and said he hopes whoever portrays the web-slinger fully embraces the physicality and movement associated with the superhero.

The role of Spider-Man eventually went to Tobey Maguire, while Willem Dafoe became widely recognised for his performance as the Green Goblin.

Cage later joined the Marvel universe through Ghost Rider and its sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
