Nayanthara's Lawyer Denies Copyright Infringement Amid Dhanush's Lawsuit Over Netflix Documentary

Actor Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan's lawyer has responded to legal action taken by actor Dhanush.

The latter had filed a civil lawsuit against the couple over a three-second clip from his production 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan' featured in their Netflix docu-drama, 'Nayanthara: Beyond Fairytale'.

Nayanthara's lawyer, Rahul Dhawan, Managing Partner at Lex Chambers, who represents Nayanthara, Vignesh, and their production company Rowdy Pictures Private Limited, denied any claims of copyright infringement.

He stated that the footage in question originated from their personal library rather than behind-the-scenes material from the film.

"Our response is that there is no infringement or violation because what has been utilised by us in the docu-series is not part of the behind-the-scenes (from the film). The same is part of the personal library. Therefore, this is not an infringement," he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Monday, December 2, in the Madras High Court.

Dhanush's legal team had earlier issued a notice demanding that the allegedly infringing content be removed within 24 hours.

Failure to do so could result in further legal proceedings, including a claim for damages of ₹10 crore against Nayanthara and Netflix India.

'Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale', a Netflix documentary celebrating Nayanthara's life, premiered on her birthday, November 18.

Ahead of its release, Nayanthara had written an open letter criticising Dhanush for refusing to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the use of clips from 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan'.
