Legendary Actor Mohanlal To Be Honoured With Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023

The Indian government announces Mohanlal as the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, recognising his exceptional contributions to Indian cinema and inspiring future generations.

Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal is set to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contributions to the film industry, as announced by the Indian government. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting shared, "On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri. Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023. Mohanlal's remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history."

Mohanlal's illustrious career began with his debut in the 1978 Malayalam film "Thiranottam," which also marked the start of his collaboration with Priyadarshan. Over the years, he has appeared in more than 400 films and received numerous accolades including five National Film Awards. These include two Best Actor awards, a Special Jury Mention, a Special Jury Award for acting, and an award for Best Feature Film as a producer.

Mohanlal's Cinematic Achievements

In addition to his success in Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal has made notable appearances in other languages. His performances in Tamil's "Iruvar" (1997), Hindi's "Company" (2002), and Telugu's "Janatha Garage" (2016) are particularly well-regarded. Recently, he starred in "L2: Empuraan," directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. This film became a massive hit, grossing over Rs 260 crore globally.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award includes a Swarna Kamal medallion, a shawl, and Rs 10 lakh cash prize. Devika Rani was its first recipient and is celebrated as the 'First Lady of Indian cinema.' Her production house Bombay Talkies played a significant role in early Indian cinema successes.

Apart from acting, Mohanlal has ventured into various roles such as playback singer, producer, distributor, television host, theatre artist, and author. His versatility extends beyond films to these diverse fields showcasing his multifaceted talents.
