'Moana 2' Release Date Announced; Most-Viewed Disney Trailer; Other Details

The Walt Disney Animation Studio just dropped their teaser trailer for 'Moana 2' on their YouTube channel, with its release date confirmed to be 27 November, 2024. The trailer has also become the most viewed trailer for Disney.

According to Deadline, the 'Moana 2' which was released the day before yesterday, has amassed around 178 million views. These views, however, are only counted for social media platforms where the trailer was released, like TikTok, YouTube, X, Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat. The YouTube trailer currently only has 7.4 million out of the total 178 million views.

This makes 'Moana 2' the most watched Disney trailer, beating out other notable movie trailers like Inside Out 2 and Frozen 2.

The description of the trailer reads, "Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she's ever faced."

The trailer shows that music will be one of the major focuses of this film's plot, as many of the people in the trailer, including Moana herself, are seen playing Polynesian instruments. The music composers for the film include returnees from the first film, three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina and Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi. The music composers will also feature Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear.

The film will be released in theatres on 27 November, 2024. It will be directed by David Derrick Jr, Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, with actors Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson reprising their roles of Moana and Maui respectively.
