Malayalam Cinema On Roll, Mints Over Rs 1000 Crore At Box Office In 2024
The Malayalam film industry achieved a significant milestone by crossing the Rs 1,000 crore mark in worldwide box office collections in 2024, outperforming other major Indian film industries and setting a record year of success.
In a striking display of success, the Malayalam film industry has soared past the Rs 1,000 crore mark in worldwide box office collections in 2024. This achievement highlights the industry's significant growth, especially at a time when other major Indian film industries are facing challenges in drawing audiences to theaters. The standout performers contributing to this remarkable feat include which together accounted for about 55 per cent of the total gross.
According to box office tracking website Sacnilk, 'Manjummel Boys' raked in Rs 240.94 crore, 'Aadujeevitham' minted Rs 157.44 crore, and 'Aavesham' collected Rs 153.52 crore.

These figures were bolstered by the success of 'Guruvayoorambala Nadayil,' which added over Rs 30 crore to the tally, pushing the industry's total earnings beyond the billion-rupee threshold. This surge in collections marks 2024 as a historic year for Malayalam cinema, doubling its global gross from the previous year.
Malayalam films now account for 20 per cent of India's total gross collection this year, a significant contribution compared to Bollywood's 38 per cent. Notably, five of the top ten highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time were released in 2024, further emphasizing the industry's recent success.
On the domestic front, the net collection has exceeded Rs 500 crore, with 'Manjummel Boys' leading at Rs 141.99 crore.
Meanwhile, Bollywood struggles to emulate its previous year's performance, with only a few films crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in 2024. Tollywood and Kollywood are also facing difficulties, with a limited number of releases making a substantial impact at the box office.
This turn of events showcases the resilience and creativity of the Malayalam film industry, which has managed to captivate audiences amidst a challenging landscape for cinema across India. With its ability to produce compelling content that resonates with viewers, Malayalam cinema's achievements set a hopeful tone for its future and the broader Indian film industry.
