'Main Atal Hoon' Review: What's Good, What's Bad; Find Out From Viewers' Words

Ravi Jadhav-directorial Hindi film 'Main Atal Hoon' has been released on Friday. The movie stars Pankaj Tripathi in the lead role with Piyush Mishra, Raja Rameshkumar Sevak, Daya Shankar Pandey, Pramod Pathak, Paula McGlynn, Krishna Saajnani and others are in the cast.

Story:

'Main Atal Hoon' is a biographical film on former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The movie throws light at his leadership during his challenging times in India's history such as the Kargil War and the Pokhran nuclear tests. The film endeavors to delve into the person beyond the politician as unveils Vajpayee's personal challenges, relationships with family and friends, and his passion for poetry and literature.

Main Atal Hoon Review

The lead role is flawlessly portrayed by Tripathi, who skillfully avoids caricature, offering a superbly nuanced performance that resists the allure of sensationalism. By delving into Vajpayee's internal conflicts, political challenges, and family struggles while maintaining a public facade, Tripathi and the supporting cast excel, even if they remain on the periphery.

Thus, the film delves into the extraordinary life and political odyssey of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, an iconic figure in Indian politics often considered to be in the wrong party. It unravels his multifaceted persona - poet, gentleman, and prime minister.

Vajpayee's poetry is artfully woven throughout the film, especially impactful towards the end. As the credits roll, the timeless poem "Hindu tan man..." resonates through the theater, compelling the audience to stand and listen to Vajpayee's voice.

What Viewers' Say About The Film?

Shirin Udhas Aggarwal: #MainATALHoon screening last evening gives u the taller picture of why we too have to be ATAL if we want the BHARAT of our dreams
We r close very very close
Brilliantly played by #PankajTripathi
It is a story of a great leader who began this journey of Nation first
Must watch

Pratik Karpe: It was an honour to be present at the special screening of #MainAtalHoon in Mumbai .
@TripathiiPankaj Ji has nailed it , everyone present echoed in one voice.
Must watch movie on one of tho Great son of BharatMata Bharatratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji
Today Atal ji would have been the most proud person seeing his follower Hon PM
@narendramodi ji completing dream of #RamMandir in Ayodhya

Sushri Sahu: #MainAtalHoon is a badly written history lesson in the garb of a bullet-point biography that does no justice to its subject. It wastes #PankajTripathi in a soul/arc less character, in a puff piece that's more about the lotus party. Very timely, nahi?

𝗥𝗮𝗷𝗮𝘁 𝗥 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗮𝗱: #MainAtalHoon captures the essence of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji - his poetry, politics & humanity.

#PankajTripathi 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀! @TripathiiPankaj also captured his charisma & his ability to connect with people. He was able to bring Vajpayee's speeches to life, and he made the audience feel like they were right there with him.

Decent biopic, but doesn't quite reach its full potential. Worth watching for Tripathi's performance, but don't expect a comprehensive portrait of Vajpayee Ji. This should have been a web series to do justice to the man of his stature with more detailing & run time, rather than a feature film.

Taran Adarsh: Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½
It's tough to make a biopic on a stalwart and encompass pertinent episodes from his lifespan in 2+ hours... #NationalAward-winning director #RaviJadhav achieves it with flourish... #MainAtalHoon is, without doubt, one of the finest biopics made in recent times. #MainAtalHoonReview

#MainAtalHoon rests on three strong pillars: writing, casting and acting... The writers chronicle #Atalji's journey - supported by archival footage - with great success... Ditto for the casting of political heavyweights like #LKAdvani, #SushmaSwaraj, #ArunJaitley and #PramodMahajan.

The period-drama would've lost its sheen if entrusted to an amateur, but #PankajTripathi deserves distinction marks for portraying one of the most-admired leaders of our times, without going overboard or making it caricaturist.

#MainAtalHoon moves at a snail's pace in the first hour, which might test your patience... Also, the screenwriting could've been tighter in this hour... The sequences, barring a few, aren't memorable enough.

Thankfully, the post-interval portions change the tide completely... Would like to make a special mention of the visuals [monochrome tone especially] and background score, both elevate the goings-on to a major extent.

#MainAtalHoon - carrying minimal buzz - could've done with a better release period, since the much-awaited biggie #Fighter invades cineplexes next Thursday.

Sana Farzeen: The first two hours of #MainAtalHoon actually looked like a crash course on how the opposition parties could raise issues against the government in court. It's ironic that the 'muddas' this country has been fighting continue to be the same for years.
