'Maidaan' Film Out On OTT Platforms TODAY, Where To Watch, Other Details

Amazon Prime's Indian accounts just announced on their social media that the movie 'Maidaan' is going to start streaming on its OTT platforms from today, 5 June onwards. The captions of the post read, "Maidaan breaking story of India's finest hour in football. #MaidaanOnPrime, watch now"

The film was initially released in theatres during Eid, which was between 10 April, 2024 and 11 April, 2024. The movie received good reviews, receiving a 70% score from critics and 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 8.2 rating on IMDb. It bombed in the box office, though, having only grossed ₹53 crores in its time in theatres despite having a budget of ₹235 crore.

The movie is good, but perhaps through poor advertising it didn't reach the eyes of the larger Indian audience. The hope is that the shift from theatres to OTT platforms will help bring more eyes to the film and give it the success it was striving for in theatres.

The plot of the film will follow the story of how the coach of the Indian football team, Syed Ahmed Rahim, managed to win the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games despite all the challenges he faced such as administrative politics and failing health due to a smoking addiction.

The movie was directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, who has worked on other notable films like the 2018 movie 'Badhaai Ho'. The role of Syed Ahmed Rahim was played by actor Ajay Devgan, who also promoted it on his social media. In the caption he quoted one of his lines in the movie, "Hum na sabse bade mulk hai, na sabse badi fauji takat, ya sabse Ameer.
