Lokah OTT Release: Not Just Mohanlal's Hridayapoorvam, Kalyani's Film Getting Ready For Digital Release

Kalyani Priyadarshan's Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is turning out to be the biggest surprise package of Malayalam cinema this year. What started off as a quiet release has now grown into a box office juggernaut, crossing the ₹130 crore mark in India.

Even in its fourth week, the film is pulling in decent numbers, with day 23 alone contributing over ₹1.7 crore to its kitty.

Naturally, with such a strong run in theatres, fans have been itching to know when they'll get to watch this dark fantasy superhero saga from the comfort of their homes. For weeks, speculation was doing the rounds-first it was said that Netflix had bagged the rights, then there were murmurs about the makers keeping their options open. The suspense has kept cinephiles hooked almost as much as the movie itself.

Meanwhile, the digital race has turned into something of a rematch. Mohanlal's Hridayapoorvam, which released in theatres on the same day as Lokah, is also heading to OTT.

Though it couldn't quite match the massive response Lokah enjoyed on the big screen, the film is expected to reach a wider audience when it drops online, especially since it will be available in multiple languages.

Well, as per the latest reports Netflix owns the digital rights and it has plans to stream the movie from September 26 while Mohanlal's Hridayapoorvam is landing on Jio Hotstar on September 26. Looks like the rivalry is all set to continue, this time in living rooms across the country.

For those unfamiliar, Lokah is a Dominic Arun directorial produced by Dulquer Salmaan under Wayfarer Films. The film stars Kalyani Priyadarshan in a striking turn as Chandra, a mysterious woman who arrives in Bengaluru and gets tangled in a world of crime, organ trafficking, and dark secrets. With Naslen, Sandy Master, Arun Kurian, and Chandu Salimkumar rounding out the cast, the movie blends fantasy and grit in a way rarely seen in Malayalam cinema.
