Lokah: Chapter 1 Dialogue Offends Kannadigas, Producer Responds

Dominic Arun's Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen-starrer Lokah: Chapter 1-Chandra is being praised for its superhero action and performances. However, a dialogue in the film sparked controversy among Kannadigas, leading to widespread criticism on social media. Dulquer Salmaan's production house, Wayfarer Films, has officially apologized for the offensive line.

The Controversial Dialogue in Lokah

In Lokah, Sandy portrays the antagonist, Inspector Nachiyappa Gowda, who is shown as misogynistic toward women. In one scene, when his mother asks him to marry a girl from Bengaluru, he refuses, insulting Bengaluru girls with a derogatory term:

"I am not saying I won't get married. But I won't marry a girl from this city because they're all s***s."

Fans criticized not only the dialogue but also party and drug-use scenes involving Naslen's character, Sunny. The backlash went viral on X, with many viewers demanding action.

Wayfarer Films Issues Apology

On Tuesday, Wayfarer Films, Dulquer Salmaan's production house, issued a public apology on social media:

"It has come to our attention that a dialogue delivered by one of the characters in our film Lokah: Chapter One has unintentionally hurt the sentiments of people from Karnataka. At Wayfarer Films, we place people above everything else. We deeply regret this oversight and assure you that no offence was intended. The dialogue in question will be removed/edited at the earliest. We sincerely apologise for the hurt caused and humbly request you to accept our apology."

Lokah: Chapter 1 - Chandra Release Details

The film stars Kalyani Priyadarshan as the titular superhero Chandra and Naslen in a pivotal role. It was released in Malayalam and Telugu on 28 August, and the Hindi version will release on 4 September.
